- 81% of people live off the land
- 27 endangered species live in the native forests, including the snow leopard, Bengal tiger and the red panda.
- Between mid 1960s and late 1970s forestland declined from 30% to 22% of the total area.
Nepal was the first project we wanted to support. It is one of the poorest countries in the world with the vast majority living in poverty. Our Offsetrs have helped support the planting of over 10,000 trees (so far!) which are not only helping reforestation efforts in the country, but also providing jobs and helping the very poorest, who are always the first to suffer when the environment is negatively affected. It is estimated 240m cubic metres of soil is lost each year from soil erosion, so our tree planting efforts here also have the added benefit of supporting soil stability.Â
